Overview:

Wildlife Technician for the Fishlake National Forest, Richfield and Fremont River Ranger Districts will work at least 12 weeks during the summer of 2025 to assist lead Wildlife Biologist's to wildlife inventory, wildlife monitoring, help install wildlife guzzlers, wildlife fence material, and enter wildlife data into agency data bases. IIC person must be capable to hike into the back country of the forest (via GPS assistance) to gather and record wildlife/habitat data and return home safely. IIC person should become familiar with how to use Forest Service radio communication equipment. IIC person should be able to operate or learn to operate government 4x4 trucks, ATV's, heavier equipment as needed.

Responsibilities:

IIC person will be physically able and capable to hike into back country areas to monitor goshawk, neo-tropical bird, elk, deer, owls, rangeland inventory and data entry. Physically able to assist in wildlife guzzler and fence installation. Operate government vehicles such as 4x4 trucks, ATV's, etc. Able to learn to operate heavier equipment for habitat work. Able to work alone in mountain conditions to inventory and monitor wildlife population and habitat conditions. Able to deploy remote camera and audio acoustic recorders. Able to catch, saddle, halter, bridle, load, transport and safely use horses in the back country. Possess computer skills to enter data into FS office data bases. Be flexible to work 8 or 10 hour days depending on supervisor needs and work demand. Able to assist with Wildlife work on the Richfield Ranger and Fremont River Ranger District of the Fishlake National Forest during the summer of 2025. See specific needs and instructions below.

Qualifications:

Goshawk Inventory and Monitoring Experience. Flammulated owl survey experience. GPS backcountry navigation experience. Horseback experience. Data gathering and computer entry experience. ATV Certification, Vehicle Driving Certification (GOVT), able to qualify on other equipment.
